This museum is located in downtown Hilo and showcases the natural and cultural history of Hawaii. Visitors can visit a historic missionary home from 1839 and the museum's exhibit halls that features collections of seashells, minerals, ancient art of China, artists of Hawaii, and changing special exhibitions. A great cultural and educational experience for people of all ages.

This museum is a living monument to those who lost their lives in past tsunamis. Tsunami translates as "harbor wave", referring to a series of waves traveling across the ocean with extremely long wavelengths. There are many exhibits and public programs that explains the tsunami phenomena, and gives some history of tsunamis in the Pacific Basin.
